The Journey

From a millennium-old academy to 2,000-year-old rice terraces —this compact 3-day journey uncovers the cultural heart of Hunan. Changsha's street food scene meets ancient philosophy, while the Ziquejie terraces offer one of China's most photogenic sunrise experiences.

DAY1

Changsha (Yuelu Academy + Orange Isle)

Arrive at Changsha Huanghua Airport or High-Speed Rail Station. Morning: Yuelu Academy —one of China's Four Great Academies, continuously operating for over 1,000 years. Afternoon: Orange Isle with its iconic 32-meter statue. Dinner at Wenheyou Old Changsha or Pozi Street —stinky tofu and sugar oil cakes.

DAY2

Shaoshan + Ziquejie Terraced Fields

Drive to Shaoshan —birthplace of modern China's founding father. Visit the Former Residence, Memorial Museum, and Bronze Statue Square. Continue to Xinhua County's Ziquejie Terraced Fields —2,000 years of agricultural heritage carved into mountainsides. Sunset over the terraces from your mountainside guesthouse.

DAY3

Ziquejie Sunrise ▶Departure

FAQ

Common Questions About This Tour

Is the sunrise at Ziquejie guaranteed?
The sunrise experience depends on weather conditions. We check forecasts in advance and choose the best available morning. In cases of persistent cloud cover, we offer a compensating tea terracing or farming activity instead.
How do I get to Changsha?
Changsha Huanghua International Airport has direct flights from Hong Kong, Bangkok, Singapore, Seoul, and other Asian hubs. High-speed rail connects Changsha to Guangzhou, Beijing, and Shanghai in under 3 hours.
Is Shaoshan included in this tour?
Yes — Shaoshan (birthplace of China's founding father) is a half-day visit on Day 2, en route to Ziquejie. It's a fascinating window into 20th-century Chinese history regardless of political perspective.
Can this be extended to 5 days?
Absolutely. Popular extensions include adding Yueyang Tower on Dongting Lake, or the Porcelain Valley in Liling. Let us know your interests and we'll design the perfect add-on.
Is this tour suitable for first-time visitors to China?
Yes — Changsha is a city with modern infrastructure and great English signage. It's an ideal entry point that balances authentic China with easy accessibility.
