The Journey

Yunnan is China's most diverse ethnic mosaic. This 5-day journey blends highland hot spring wellness with immersive ethnic cultural experiences. From Dali's Bai tie-dye workshops to Lijiang's Naxi Dongba culture, from Tengchong's geothermal hot springs to Xishuangbanna's Dai pottery —you'll soak in healing waters by night and dive into centuries-old traditions by day.

DAY1

Dali Arrival —Bai Ethnic Welcome

Arrive at Dali Fengyi Airport. Private transfer to a boutique hotel near Erhai Lake. Welcome ceremony: Bai "Three-Course Tea" ritual (bitter, sweet, aftertaste —life philosophy in a cup). Afternoon: gentle walk along Erhai Lake's western shore. Dinner: Bai farmhouse cuisine (steamed Erhai fish, wild mushrooms). Evening: soak in your hotel's private hot spring tub overlooking the lake.

DAY2

Bai Tie-Dye & Xizhou Morning Market

Morning: visit Xizhou Ancient Town —best-preserved Bai architecture. Explore the morning market (vegetables, flowers, herbs). Tie-dye workshop: learn Bai traditional indigo dyeing, create your own scarf or wall hanging. Lunch: Xizhou baba (flatbread) and local yogurt. Afternoon: drive to Lijiang (2hrs). Check into a Naxi-style courtyard hotel with hot spring. Evening: Lijiang Old Town night walk (UNESCO World Heritage).

DAY3

Naxi Dongba Culture & Jade Dragon Snow Mountain Spa

Morning: visit a Naxi family and learn Dongba script (the world's only living pictographic writing). Try your hand at writing your name in Dongba. Lunch: Naxi cuisine (Lijiang baba, chickpea jelly). Afternoon: drive to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain foothills. Soak in a highland hot spring resort (2,400m altitude) with views of the snow-capped peak. The mineral water here is famous for skin rejuvenation.

DAY4

Tengchong —Geothermal Wonderland

Morning: drive to Tengchong (3.5hrs) —Yunnan's geothermal capital. Visit Heshun Ancient Town —a beautiful overseas Chinese village with traditional architecture. Lunch: Tengchong copper-hot-pot cuisine. Afternoon: Tengchong Hot Spring Resort —choose from 20+ outdoor pools (different temperatures, different minerals). Evening: bonfire party with local ethnic minorities (Bai, Dai, Hui).

DAY5

Volcano Park & Farewell

Morning: Tengchong Volano Geological Park —walk on extinct volcano craters, see geothermal steam vents. Visit a jade carving workshop (Tengchong is famous for Burmese jade). Lunch: farewell feast with ethnic performance. Afternoon: transfer to Tengchong Tuofeng Airport. Depart with a tie-dyed scarf, Dongba script souvenir, and a heart full of Yunnan's warmth.

FAQ

Is the altitude a problem? Will I get altitude sickness?

Dali (2,000m) and Lijiang (2,400m) are moderate altitudes. Most people are fine. We provide oxygen cans just in case. Tengchong is lower (1,600m). The hot springs actually help with altitude adjustment —relaxing your muscles and improving circulation.

Can I actually learn Dongba script? Is it dificult?

Dongba is pictographic —each character is a litle drawing. It's surprisingly fun and accessible! You'll learn 10-15 basic characters (like "sun," "moon," "love," "travel"). The Naxi master will help you write your name. It's a unique souvenir!

What should I pack for the hot springs?

Bring your swimsuit. We provide towels, slippers, and bathrobes at the resorts. The weather in Yunnan is "four seasons in one day" —bring layers. Mornings and evenings are cool (15°C), afternoons can be warm (25°C).

Are the hot springs mixed-gender? What's the etiquette?

The resorts have separate male/female indoor pools, but outdoor pools are usually mixed (with swimsuits). If you prefer privacy, we book private tubs (your own enclosed pool). No special etiquette —just shower before entering, and don't dive (it's not a swimming pool).

Can I buy the tie-dyed fabric I made? Is it washable?

Yes! You'll take home the scarf or wall hanging you dyed. It's 100% cotton, washable (cold water, mild detergent). The indigo color actualy deepens with each wash. It's a beautiful, functional memory of Yunnan.
